Overview
The hepatitis B monovalent vaccine is a preventive biologic product designed to induce immunity against the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It contains purified recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), produced in yeast cells or other expression systems, and formulated with an adjuvant such as aluminum salts or, in the case of Heplisav-B, a synthetic immunostimulatory oligonucleotide. The mechanism of action involves stimulating the immune system to produce protective antibodies against HBsAg, thereby preventing infection by HBV. The primary indication is prevention of hepatitis B infection and its complications—including chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma—in all age groups from birth onward[3][6][10]. Multiple formulations are available for different age groups and risk populations.
