Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination vaccine consisting of **recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen** (HBsAg) as the antigen and **AS04** as the adjuvant. AS04 is made of 3-O-desacyl-4'-monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL), a detoxified derivative of lipid A from bacterial lipopolysaccharide, combined with aluminum salt. The vaccine is designed to induce protective immunity against hepatitis B virus with enhanced and more persistent antibody responses, particularly in populations with reduced vaccine responsiveness (such as patients with kidney disease). MPL stimulates the immune system through pattern recognition receptors, leading to activation of antigen-presenting cells and enhanced T-cell and B-cell responses. The vaccine is primarily indicated for the prophylaxis of hepatitis B virus infection and has demonstrated improved immunogenicity compared to formulations adjuvanted with aluminum salts alone[2][6][8].
