Overview

The Hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) is a recombinant subunit vaccine containing the Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), used to provide active immunity against infection caused by the Hepatitis B virus. In the context of Novartis Vaccines' clinical development program for meningococcal disease, this vaccine was evaluated for concomitant administration with the quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine, MenACWY-CRM (Menveo). Clinical studies, such as the Phase 3 trial NCT00626327, were conducted to demonstrate that the safety and immunogenicity of both the HBV vaccine and the meningococcal vaccine are maintained when administered together during routine infant immunization schedules (typically at 2, 4, and 6 months of age). The vaccine is produced using recombinant DNA technology, typically in yeast cells (*Saccharomyces cerevisiae*), and is administered via intramuscular injection.
