Overview

Fendrix is an adjuvanted recombinant hepatitis B vaccine developed by GSK. It consists of the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) produced via recombinant DNA technology in yeast (*Saccharomyces cerevisiae*). The vaccine is formulated with the AS04C adjuvant system, which combines 3-O-desacyl-4'-monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL) and aluminium phosphate. This specific adjuvant combination is designed to accelerate and enhance the production of anti-HBs antibodies, providing a more robust and long-lasting immune response compared to standard vaccines. Fendrix is primarily indicated for active immunization against hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in patients aged 15 years and older with renal insufficiency, including those undergoing or about to undergo haemodialysis, who typically exhibit lower seroconversion rates with conventional vaccines.
