Overview

The monovalent hepatitis B vaccine is a recombinant, inactivated vaccine containing purified hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) produced in yeast cells. It is designed to stimulate active immunity against infection by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). The primary mechanism of action involves induction of specific humoral antibodies against HBsAg, with an anti-HBs antibody titre above 10 IU/L correlating with protection from HBV infection. This vaccine does not protect against other forms of viral hepatitis. It is indicated for all age groups and can be administered as part of routine immunization schedules or as post-exposure prophylaxis. Monovalent formulations are used for birth doses and primary series, especially before six weeks of age[2][4][7][9].
