Overview
A prophylactic vaccine designed to provide immunity against the hepatitis B virus (HBV). In the context of the TheraVACCS clinical trial (NCT02750202) led by the University of Pretoria, this vaccine is utilized as an active control (placebo comparator) in a Phase 3 study. The trial investigates whether the quadrivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine (Gardasil) can prevent the recurrence of extensive genital warts in women following surgical treatment. The hepatitis B vaccine is administered to the control group to maintain the double-blind nature of the study while providing a health benefit (HBV protection) to the participants, although it has no known therapeutic effect on HPV-induced genital warts.
