Hepatocyte-Derived Liver Progenitor-Like Cells (HepLPCs) are an experimental cell therapy developed by transforming human primary hepatocytes into expandable progenitor-like cells. This protocol, developed by researchers at Renji Hospital in collaboration with Shanghai Cryowise Technology, aims to address the shortage of donor organs for liver transplantation by providing a regenerative treatment for liver cirrhosis. HepLPCs exhibit anti-fibrotic properties and facilitate liver regeneration. In clinical studies, the infusion of these cells has been shown to be safe and feasible, with no dose-limiting toxicities observed. Preliminary results indicate significant improvements in liver function and cirrhosis indicators in patients with decompensated cirrhosis and acute-on-chronic liver failure.
