HepeX-B is an investigational biologic therapy consisting of a mixture of two human monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) directed against the Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). Developed by Cubist Pharmaceuticals (a subsidiary of Merck & Co.) in collaboration with XTL Biopharmaceuticals, it was designed for the prevention of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reinfection in patients undergoing liver transplantation for HBV-related end-stage liver disease. The drug was intended to serve as a more standardized and potent alternative to plasma-derived Hepatitis B Immune Globulin (HBIg) by neutralizing circulating HBV particles and preventing the infection of the new liver graft. Clinical development reached Phase 2b, but the program was ultimately discontinued following strategic shifts and the acquisition of Cubist by Merck.
