heptaminol

Heptaminol is a small molecule cardiac stimulant and vasodilator, classified as an amino alcohol. It is primarily used in the treatment of orthostatic hypotension, hemorrhoids, and venolymphatic insufficiency. Heptaminol acts as a positive inotrope (increases cardiac contractility), increases coronary blood flow, and has mild peripheral vasoconstrictor properties. Its mechanism of action is not fully understood but appears to involve interference with catecholamine (norepinephrine) release and uptake—possibly by inhibiting norepinephrine reuptake at sympathetic nerve endings—and may also stimulate Na+/H+ exchange in myocardial cells[1][5][6][8]. Heptaminol has been investigated up to phase II clinical trials for cardiovascular indications[1]. It is also listed as a prohibited substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency due to its stimulant effects[5].
