HER2-targeting CAR-M is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor macrophage (CAR-M) cell therapy designed to target the Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2). Developed by The Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, this therapeutic approach involves engineering macrophages to express a CAR specific for HER2, enabling them to selectively recognize and phagocytose HER2-positive tumor cells. Unlike CAR-T cells, CAR-M cells are characterized by their ability to effectively penetrate solid tumor tissues and modulate the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment by secreting pro-inflammatory cytokines and presenting tumor-derived antigens to T cells. The therapy is currently being investigated in a Phase 1 clinical trial (ChiCTR2400080078) for the treatment of patients with relapsed or refractory ovarian cancer whose tumors exhibit at least 10% HER2 expression.
