Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Herba cistanches extract refers to the concentrated preparation obtained from the stem of plants in the genus *Cistanche* (mainly *Cistanche deserticola* and *Cistanche tubulosa*), traditionally used in Chinese medicine. The extract contains a diverse profile of bioactive compounds, principally **phenylethanoid glycosides** (such as echinacoside and acteoside), iridoids, lignans, oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides[2][3][8]. Scientifically, extracts demonstrate broad **mechanisms of action** including strong **antioxidant, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory**, and **hepatoprotective** effects. They show activity in extending lifespan (anti-aging), improving immunity, modulating serum hormone levels, inhibiting cell apoptosis, protecting neurons, preventing oxidative stress, reducing muscle toxicity, and exhibiting anti-tumor potential[1][5][7][8]. In *in vivo* and *in vitro* models, the extracts have shown efficacy relevant to **Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, vascular dementia, chronic kidney disease, and other degenerative or inflammatory conditions**[5][8].
