Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Herbiron is an oral botanical drug combination developed by Microbio Co., Ltd. for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea and iron-deficiency anemia. The product is formulated as a 50-mL drink and contains ferrous bisglycinate chelate (Ferrochel) integrated with four traditional herbal components: *Angelica sinensis* (Dang Quai), *Rehmannia glutinosa* (Soe Dee Huang), *Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong* (Tsuan Chyong), and *Paeonia radix Pall*. Herbiron received New Drug Administration approval from the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) and is marketed as an over-the-counter (OTC) product. Clinical Phase III trials demonstrated that Herbiron significantly improves serum hemoglobin, red blood cell volume, and serum ferritin levels while alleviating symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea in women aged 12-55 years. Notably, it has been shown to cause fewer gastrointestinal adverse events compared to conventional ferrous sulfate treatments.
