Herniarin is a natural product belonging to the simple coumarin class, chemically identified as 7-methoxycoumarin. It is found in various plant species, including *Herniaria glabra* (rupturewort) and *Lavandula angustifolia* (lavender). In oncological research, herniarin is primarily investigated for its role as a chemosensitizer. Studies have demonstrated that while herniarin itself exhibits minimal direct cytotoxicity, it significantly potentiates the cytotoxic and pro-apoptotic effects of cisplatin in transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) cells. This synergistic effect is associated with increased chromatin condensation and enhanced induction of apoptosis, suggesting that herniarin may serve as a valuable adjuvant in combinatorial chemotherapy regimens for bladder cancer.
