Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Herpecin L is a topical lip balm formulation developed by Focus Consumer Healthcare for the treatment and prevention of cold sores and fever blisters caused by the herpes simplex virus. The product functions as a multi-ingredient combination therapy, utilizing dimethicone (1%) as a skin protectant to provide a physical barrier and relieve dryness, alongside chemical sunscreens including meradimate (5%), octinoxate (7.5%), and oxybenzone (6%) to provide SPF 30 protection. This sun protection is critical as ultraviolet radiation is a common trigger for the reactivation of latent herpes simplex virus. Additionally, the formulation incorporates lysine hydrochloride, lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) extract, and vitamins C, B6, and E to support skin health and symptom relief. It is intended for both daily preventive use and acute treatment at the first sign of an outbreak to reduce healing time and symptom severity.
