Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Herring protein is a dietary supplement derived from herring fish, investigated for its potential health benefits. In a clinical study involving overweight adults, daily supplementation with 2.5 grams of herring protein for eight weeks was observed to reduce serum levels of the ketone bodies acetoacetate and β-hydroxybutyrate more significantly than proteins from salmon or cod. [1] While it did not directly alter glucose or insulin concentrations in the study, the findings suggest that low doses of herring protein, similar to cod and milk proteins, may contribute to improved glucose regulation. [1] The study did not find any changes in serum lipid concentrations with herring protein supplementation. [1]
