Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HERV-K immunotherapy refers to a class of immunotherapeutic strategies designed to target Human Endogenous Retrovirus K (HERV-K), a genetic remnant of ancient retroviral infections integrated into the human genome. While typically silent in healthy tissues, HERV-K is aberrantly reactivated and expressed in various solid tumors (such as colorectal, breast, ovarian, prostate, and pancreatic cancers) as well as in metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. HERV-K immunotherapies aim to break immune tolerance to these self-antigens, utilizing modalities such as adenoviral vectors, mRNA vaccines, and monoclonal antibodies to stimulate robust humoral and cellular immune responses (including CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell activation) against HERV-K-expressing cells.
