Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hervycta is a biosimilar of the monoclonal antibody trastuzumab, developed by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories. It specifically targets the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) protein, which is overexpressed in certain types of cancer. By binding to the extracellular domain of the HER2 receptor, Hervycta inhibits ligand-independent HER2 signaling and prevents the proteolytic cleavage of its extracellular domain, a marker of tumor progression. Additionally, it mediates antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) to induce the death of HER2-overexpressing cells. It is indicated for the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer and HER2-positive metastatic gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma.
