Overview
Herzuma + pertuzumab is a combination therapy consisting of the trastuzumab biosimilar Herzuma (CT-P6) and the monoclonal antibody pertuzumab. Herzuma, developed by Celltrion, is a biosimilar to Herceptin that targets the extracellular domain IV of the HER2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2) protein, inhibiting downstream signaling pathways and inducing antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC). Pertuzumab, developed by Roche, is a HER2 dimerization inhibitor that binds to domain II of the HER2 receptor, preventing it from forming heterodimers with other HER family members (HER1, HER3, and HER4). By binding to different epitopes on the HER2 receptor, the two antibodies provide a more comprehensive dual blockade of HER2 signaling. This combination is utilized as neoadjuvant therapy for patients with early HER2-positive breast cancer. The Fundacion para la Formacion e Investigacion Sanitarias de la Region de Murcia is evaluating this combination in a prospective multicenter observational study to assess its efficacy and safety in routine clinical practice.
