Overview

hESC-derived mesenchymal cells (hESC-MSCs), specifically the preparation developed by Qi Zhou's team at the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (often referred to as CAStem), is an investigational cell therapy for moderate to severe intrauterine adhesions (IUA). These cells are derived from human embryonic stem cells and are characterized by their high proliferative capacity and standardized production. In the context of IUA, the cells are injected into the uterine cavity to promote endometrial regeneration, reduce fibrosis, and restore uterine function. The therapeutic effect is primarily attributed to paracrine mechanisms, where the cells secrete growth factors and cytokines that modulate the local microenvironment to favor tissue repair over scar formation.
