Hesperidin methyl chalcone (HMC) is a water-soluble methylated derivative of the citrus flavonoid hesperidin. It is primarily recognized for its vasoprotective, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. HMC is frequently used to improve capillary resistance and reduce vascular permeability, making it a common component in treatments for chronic venous insufficiency and hemorrhoids. Mechanistically, it inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-17A (IL-17A), and interleukin-23 (IL-23), and suppresses oxidative stress by reducing reactive oxygen species and inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Recent preclinical research has also highlighted its potential in treating inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis, where it demonstrates synergistic effects when combined with methotrexate by modulating inflammatory pathways and reducing epidermal hyperplasia.
