Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Heweitongxie Mixture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed by the Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of functional constipation, particularly slow transit constipation (STC). The formulation is designed to harmonize the stomach and promote bowel movements. Pharmacological studies suggest that the mixture works by regulating gastrointestinal motility through the modulation of enteric neurotransmitters, specifically by increasing the expression of Substance P (SP) and balancing Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP). Additionally, it is believed to enhance the function and density of the interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) in the colon, often evidenced by increased expression of the c-Kit protein. It is administered orally as a liquid mixture and is widely used within the developing hospital's clinical practice.
