Hexapeptide-11 is a synthetic bioactive peptide with the amino acid sequence Phe-Val-Ala-Pro-Phe-Pro (FVAPFP), originally isolated from yeast extracts. It is primarily utilized in cosmeceutical applications for its anti-aging and skin-rejuvenating properties. The peptide acts as a modulator of the proteostasis network, activating the Nrf2-mediated antioxidant response, the proteasome, and autophagy pathways to protect fibroblasts from oxidative stress and premature senescence. Additionally, it enhances skin firmness and elasticity by stimulating collagen synthesis and upregulating hyaluronic acid production through the induction of HAS2 and EGR3 expression, while simultaneously downregulating the hyaluronidase HYAL2. Although widely incorporated into topical skincare formulations to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, it is not currently developed as a pharmaceutical agent for the treatment of medical diseases.
