Overview

Hexasiil is a fully liquid hexavalent combination vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India (SIIPL). It is designed to provide active immunization against six major childhood diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, and invasive infections caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). The vaccine is a DTwP-HepB-IPV-Hib formulation, containing diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, whole-cell pertussis (wP), recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HepB), inactivated poliovirus (IPV) types 1, 2, and 3, and Hib conjugate. Hexasiil is notable for being the first WHO-prequalified fully liquid hexavalent vaccine that incorporates whole-cell pertussis, allowing for easier administration in a single injection. It is typically administered as a three-dose primary series in infants at 6, 10, and 14 weeks of age.
