Overview

The hexavalent bovine rotavirus vaccine (Hexavalent BRV) is a live-attenuated, oral reassortant vaccine developed for the prevention of rotavirus-induced gastroenteritis. It utilizes a bovine rotavirus strain (typically the UK bovine strain) as a genetic backbone, into which genes encoding the VP7 surface proteins of six common human rotavirus serotypes (G1, G2, G3, G4, G8, and G9) are reassorted. This multivalent approach is designed to provide broad protection against the most prevalent rotavirus genotypes globally, including those that are not covered by monovalent or pentavalent vaccines. The vaccine is administered orally to infants and children to stimulate local mucosal immunity in the intestinal tract, which is the primary site of rotavirus infection and replication.
