It is designed to prevent Group B Streptococcus (GBS) infections, which are a leading cause of neonatal sepsis, pneumonia, and meningitis. The vaccine utilizes a conjugate technology platform, linking capsular polysaccharides from six common GBS serotypes to a carrier protein to enhance immunogenicity and induce a T-cell dependent immune response. The primary development strategy involves maternal immunization to provide passive protection to infants through the transplacental transfer of protective antibodies.
