Overview

The Biovac Hexavalent Vaccine is a combination vaccine developed to provide active immunization against six major infectious diseases in infants: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), poliomyelitis, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) infection, and hepatitis B. Developed by the South African company Biovac, often in collaboration with international partners like Sanofi, this vaccine is a fully liquid formulation that simplifies immunization schedules by reducing the number of required injections. It contains diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, pertussis antigens (typically acellular), inactivated poliovirus (IPV) types 1, 2, and 3, Haemophilus influenzae type b capsular polysaccharide conjugated to a carrier protein, and recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). The vaccine works by eliciting a protective immune response, including the production of specific antibodies and the establishment of immunological memory against the antigens of these six pathogens.
