hexestrol

Hexestrol is a synthetic nonsteroidal estrogen of the stilbestrol group and a hydrogenated derivative of diethylstilbestrol. It acts as an estrogen receptor agonist with strong affinity for estrogen receptors. Historically used for estrogen replacement therapy and in the treatment of hormone-dependent cancers (such as prostate cancer), gynecological disorders (including amenorrhea and dysfunctional uterine bleeding), and menopausal syndrome. Its use in humans has been discontinued due to adverse effects on reproductive health and increased risk of severe side effects such as cancer and metabolic disorders. Hexestrol has also been investigated as a hormonal antineoplastic agent. In research settings it has shown activity inhibiting Lassa virus entry by blocking membrane fusion during viral entry[1][2][5][6][7].
