Hexoprenaline is a selective beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist and small molecule drug used primarily as a bronchodilator, antiasthmatic, and tocolytic agent. It acts by stimulating beta-2 adrenergic receptors in smooth muscle, leading to relaxation of bronchial and uterine muscles. This results in bronchodilation for the treatment of asthma and other obstructive airway diseases (such as bronchitis and emphysema), as well as inhibition of uterine contractions for the management of preterm labor (tocolysis). Hexoprenaline is available in oral, intravenous, and inhalation formulations.
