Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hexyon is a fully liquid, ready-to-use, hexavalent vaccine composed of six antigens: diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, acellular pertussis antigens (pertussis toxoid and filamentous haemagglutinin), hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg, produced using recombinant DNA technology in Hansenula polymorpha yeast), inactivated poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3, and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) polysaccharide conjugated to tetanus protein. It is indicated for primary and booster vaccination of infants and toddlers aged from six weeks to 24 months against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, and invasive Hib disease[1][2][3][4][5][7][9]. The vaccine works by inducing the immune system to produce antibodies to these pathogens, providing active immunity. Its formulation is fully liquid, requiring no reconstitution, designed to reduce handling errors, improve convenience, and increase compliance[2][3][4][6]. Hexyon's immunogenicity and safety profile are comparable to other hexavalent vaccines, but it has the advantage of a streamlined administration[7].
