Overview
Hezhong granules is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine formula being investigated as a complementary therapy, particularly for managing symptoms associated with cancer treatment. The formula comprises eight herbs, including Pinellia ternata, Evodia rutaecarpa, and Zingiber officinale. [1, 2] Clinical studies have focused on its ability to prevent chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) and its potential to improve outcomes in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). [2, 3] Research suggests that Hezhong granules can inhibit the release of serotonin (5-HT3) and substance P, down-regulate the neurokinin-1 receptor, and inhibit gastric secretion, contributing to its antiemetic effects. [1] Clinical trials have shown it to be effective and well-tolerated, especially in preventing delayed CINV, and it is being studied in further trials for mCRC. [2, 3]
