Overview

HFE siRNA is a small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of the HFE (Homeostatic Iron Regulator) gene. HFE is a protein involved in iron metabolism, and its variants (such as C282Y) are associated with increased iron accumulation, which can promote oxidative stress and oncogenesis. Research conducted at the Penn State College of Medicine demonstrated that HFE is highly expressed in various brain tumors, including glioblastoma and neuroblastoma. In preclinical models, HFE siRNA treatment significantly inhibited the proliferation of cancer cells and reduced tumor growth in vivo, suggesting that HFE inhibition may be a viable therapeutic strategy for iron-dependent malignancies.
