Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HG-102 is a liquid formulation of botulinum toxin type A developed by Hugel. It is designed as a ready-to-use (RTU) injection, eliminating the need for reconstitution of lyophilized powder, which is the standard for most botulinum toxin products like Botox. By providing a stabilized liquid format, HG-102 aims to reduce the risk of human error and contamination during the dilution process while maintaining efficacy and safety. The mechanism of action involves the cleavage of SNAP-25, a protein essential for the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from peripheral nerve endings. This inhibition of acetylcholine release results in temporary chemical denervation and muscle relaxation, which smoothes the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines.
