HG 105 is a purified 150 kDa botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNT/A) product developed by Hugel for the treatment of glabellar lines. Unlike traditional botulinum toxin formulations that contain complexing proteins (such as hemagglutinins), HG 105 is a "pure" toxin formulation containing only the active neurotoxin component. This design is intended to reduce the risk of immunogenicity and the development of neutralizing antibodies, which can lead to reduced efficacy over time. HG 105 acts by cleaving the synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP-25) within cholinergic nerve terminals, thereby inhibiting the release of acetylcholine into the neuromuscular junction. This results in temporary localized muscle paralysis and the smoothing of facial wrinkles. It is currently in Phase 1 clinical development.
