Overview

HGEN005 is a first-in-class monoclonal antibody that targets the human epidermal growth factor-like module containing mucin-like hormone receptor 1 (EMR1), also known as adhesion G protein-coupled receptor E1. Developed by Humanigen, the drug is designed to treat eosinophilic diseases by inhibiting EMR1 and inducing antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) to deplete eosinophils. Targeted indications included asthma, Churg-Strauss syndrome (eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis), eosinophilic esophagitis, and certain types of leukemia. Development reached the preclinical stage, with plans for Phase 1/2 trials, but was discontinued following Humanigen's bankruptcy in 2024. The asset was subsequently acquired by Taran Therapeutics.
