HGF-AccumBody (HGF-AB) is an experimental therapeutic consisting of Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) conjugated to the AccumBody® antibody-based delivery platform. Developed by researchers at Kagoshima University, it is designed for the targeted delivery of HGF to the intestine to treat inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as colitis. HGF is a potent cytokine that promotes epithelial regeneration and mucosal healing, but its clinical use is typically hindered by rapid systemic clearance and hepatic sequestration. The AccumBody® platform overcomes these limitations by facilitating intestine-specific localization and improving the pharmacokinetic profile of HGF. In preclinical models of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis, HGF-AB demonstrated the ability to attenuate weight loss, reduce histological tissue injury, and preserve crypt architecture by enhancing epithelial repair and modulating local inflammation.
