HGP0816 is a rosuvastatin formulation developed by Hanmi Pharmaceutical Company Limited for the treatment of lipid disorders, including dyslipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia. As a member of the statin class, rosuvastatin acts as a competitive inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in the mevalonate pathway responsible for endogenous cholesterol synthesis. By inhibiting this enzyme, HGP0816 reduces hepatic cholesterol production and increases the expression of LDL receptors on the surface of hepatocytes, thereby enhancing the uptake and catabolism of LDL-cholesterol from the circulation. Hanmi Pharmaceutical has utilized HGP0816 in Phase 1 clinical research to evaluate pharmacokinetic interactions with other lipid-modifying agents, such as omega-3-acid ethyl esters (HGP0918), to support the development of optimized combination therapies for cardiovascular health.
