Overview

Hi-Xenin refers to a high-dose intravenous infusion of the peptide hormone xenin, typically at 12 pmol·kg⁻¹·min⁻¹, used in clinical research settings. Xenin is a 25-amino acid peptide (xenin-25) related to neurotensin and secreted by enteroendocrine K-cells in the gastrointestinal tract. In human studies, "Hi-Xen" infusions have been shown to delay gastric emptying and reduce postprandial glucose levels in individuals with normal glucose tolerance (NGT), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The mechanism involves modulation of gastrointestinal motility and appetite regulation via central and peripheral pathways. Xenin also exhibits anorexigenic effects—reducing calorie intake—and may augment insulin secretion or restore GIP sensitivity, making it an attractive candidate for metabolic disease research[2][3].
