Hib Vaccine Takeda (TAK-816) is a Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) conjugate vaccine developed by Takeda, specifically for the Japanese market. It consists of the Hib capsular polysaccharide, polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP), covalently linked to a tetanus toxoid carrier protein. This conjugation is essential for converting the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigen into a T-cell dependent antigen, which allows the vaccine to elicit a robust and durable immune response in infants and young children whose immune systems are otherwise poorly responsive to pure polysaccharide antigens. The vaccine is indicated for the prevention of invasive diseases caused by Hib, including meningitis, pneumonia, and septicemia. In clinical studies, TAK-816 demonstrated non-inferior immunogenicity and a safety profile comparable to established Hib vaccines like ActHIB when co-administered with other routine pediatric vaccines such as DPT-TAKEDA.
