Overview

HiClinc-1 (Highly Conserved Intergenic long-noncoding RNA-1) is a cancer-testis long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that is specifically expressed in the testis and re-expressed across various cancer types. Identified by researchers at the University of Michigan, HiClinc-1 belongs to a subset of lncRNAs containing ultra-conserved elements (UCEs). It functions by binding to the Insulin-Like Growth Factor 2 mRNA Binding Protein 1 (IGF2BP1) within the messenger Ribonucleoprotein (mRNP) complex. This interaction regulates the downstream target Insulin-Like Growth Factor 2 (IGF2), promoting cell proliferation and tumor initiation. Preclinical evidence in mouse xenografts and zebrafish models indicates that HiClinc-1 accelerates the onset and growth of NRAS-induced melanoma, positioning it as a potential therapeutic target for cancer treatment.
