Drug intelligence / Profile preview
hICOSL-peptide (also known as hICOSL-19) is a novel 19-mer linear peptide derived from the inducible costimulatory ligand (ICOSL). It contains an RGD (arginine-glycine-aspartic acid) motif and acts as an antagonist of active αvβ3 integrin (integrin alpha-V/beta-3). Developed by researchers at Rush University Medical Center in collaboration with Morphic Therapeutic, hICOSL-peptide is designed to target αvβ3 integrin in podocytes to mitigate podocyte injury and glomerular damage. In preclinical models of proteinuric kidney diseases, including diabetic nephropathy and immune-mediated glomerulonephritis, treatment with hICOSL-peptide or its PEGylated form (PhICOSL-19 / PEG12-hICOSL-peptide) significantly reduced proteinuria, limited glomerular injury, and preserved podocyte architecture without causing detectable cytotoxicity or immunogenicity.
