Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HiDex is a brand-name oral formulation of dexamethasone, a potent synthetic glucocorticoid. It is primarily used for its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties across a wide range of conditions, including severe allergic reactions, dermatologic diseases, endocrine disorders, and as an adjunct in cancer treatment. Formulated as 1.5 mg tablets, it is often prescribed in a 6-day tapered dose pack (HiDex 6-Day). Dexamethasone works by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, subsequently translocating to the nucleus to modulate the transcription of genes involved in the inflammatory response. It is notable for having minimal mineralocorticoid activity compared to hydrocortisone and acting as a moderate inducer of the CYP3A4 enzyme.
