Hidrathea

Hidrathea is a preservative-free artificial tear solution containing 0.9% sodium chloride, developed and marketed by the Biotechnology Institute IMASD (BTI). It is designed to provide ocular lubrication and maintain moisture on the corneal surface. In the context of neurotrophic keratitis (NK), Hidrathea is utilized as the comparator in a Phase 4 clinical trial (NCT04086485) conducted by BTI to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PRGF-Endoret (Plasma Rich in Growth Factors) eye drops in patients with stage 2 and 3 NK. While Hidrathea offers symptomatic relief for ocular dryness and irritation by mechanically replacing tears, it lacks the regenerative growth factors found in autologous blood-derived therapies and does not address the underlying trigeminal nerve impairment characteristic of neurotrophic keratitis.
