HIF-1 siRNA (Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 small interfering RNA) refers to a class of double-stranded RNA molecules designed to specifically target and silence the expression of Hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) mRNA. HIF-1α is a key transcription factor that regulates cellular responses to hypoxia, promoting angiogenesis, metabolic reprogramming, and cell survival under low-oxygen conditions. In oncology, HIF-1α is frequently upregulated and associated with tumor progression, metastasis, and resistance to chemotherapy and radiation. Silencing HIF-1α using siRNA has been widely investigated in preclinical research as a therapeutic strategy to inhibit tumor growth, overcome drug resistance, and suppress angiogenesis, often utilizing various nanoparticle delivery systems to facilitate cellular uptake.
