Drug intelligence / Profile preview
High ACE Activity Fresh Frozen Plasma is a specialized blood product derived from the liquid portion of whole blood that contains elevated levels of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity. It is specifically selected from donor plasma units that demonstrate higher ACE activity levels. This specialized plasma product is primarily used for treating ACE inhibitor-induced angioedema, where standard Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) has shown variable efficacy. Research has demonstrated that there can be greater than 20-fold difference in ACE activity levels between different units of FFP from blood donors, which explains the variability in treatment outcomes. High ACE Activity FFP works by providing increased ACE enzyme activity, which helps break down accumulated bradykinin, thereby reducing swelling in patients with angioedema.
