Overview
High-dose washed microbiota suspension is a microbial therapy developed by The Second Hospital of Nanjing Medical University for the treatment of chronic constipation. It consists of a concentrated suspension of commensal bacteria derived from healthy donor feces, which has undergone an automated washing process to remove potentially harmful non-bacterial components such as pro-inflammatory cytokines, metabolites, and food residues. This 'washed' approach is designed to enhance the safety profile and precision of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). The high-dose formulation is specifically being investigated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials to evaluate its efficacy in restoring gut microbial diversity and improving bowel movement frequency and consistency in patients with chronic constipation.
