High-selenium *Brassica juncea* (BJ-Se) is a nutraceutical agent derived from Indian mustard plants grown in selenium-enriched environments, enabling the accumulation of high levels of organic selenium, primarily in the form of Se-methyl-L-selenocysteine (MSC). MSC serves as a prodrug that is converted by endogenous β-lyases into methylselenol, a reactive metabolite that exerts anti-tumor effects by inducing apoptosis, inhibiting angiogenesis, and modulating the redox state of cancer cells. Clinically, BJ-Se has been studied as a chemosensitizing agent to enhance the therapeutic index of cytotoxic drugs such as irinotecan and capecitabine. By selectively sensitizing tumor cells and potentially protecting normal tissues, BJ-Se aims to increase the efficacy of standard chemotherapy in patients with advanced solid tumors.
