Overview

High-titer COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP1) is a biologic therapy consisting of plasma derived from individuals who have recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection, specifically selected for having high levels of neutralizing antibodies. Developed and studied by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Phase 2 CoVIP trial (NCT04524507), this therapy aims to provide passive immunity to hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The neutralizing antibodies within the plasma bind to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, preventing viral entry into host cells and thereby reducing viral load and disease progression. The UNC study specifically investigated whether high-titer plasma offers superior clinical outcomes compared to standard-titer plasma in patients with early-stage hospitalization.
