HPuFSH + GnRH antagonist is a combination therapeutic regimen used in assisted reproductive technology (ART), specifically for controlled ovarian stimulation in women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). Highly Purified urinary Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (HPuFSH) is a biologic gonadotropin derived from human urine that stimulates the development of multiple follicles by binding to FSH receptors on granulosa cells. The GnRH antagonist (such as cetrorelix or ganirelix) is a peptide that competitively blocks GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, providing immediate suppression of luteinizing hormone (LH) to prevent premature ovulation. This protocol is frequently employed in poor responders to optimize follicular recruitment while maintaining control over the LH surge. In clinical trials, this combination often serves as the baseline stimulation protocol for evaluating adjunctive therapies like growth hormone.
