Overview

Himachalol is a himachalane-type **sesquiterpenoid alcohol** (C15H26O) found in the essential oil of the Himalayan cedar (Cedrus deodara) and other plant sources.[1][2][8][15] It occurs naturally as both cis- and trans-isomers, with structural and spectroscopic differences. Himachalol has demonstrated **antispasmodic, anticancer, insecticidal**, and *antifungal* properties in vitro and in experimental studies.[3][5][7][8][11] Its antispasmodic activity is associated with antagonism of neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine, histamine, and serotonin on smooth muscle, similar to papaverine.[5][7] The mechanism of action is not fully elucidated but likely involves **smooth muscle relaxation via neurotransmitter antagonism**.[3][5][7] Himachalol (especially cis-isomer) has shown **cytotoxicity against several cancer cell lines** in preclinical assays and demonstrated **activity against Aspergillus species** in vitro.[5][11]
