Overview

Hinoporon is a topical oral ointment developed by Showa Yakuhin Kako (now GC SHOWAYAKUHIN CORPORATION) for the treatment of periodontal diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis, as well as stomatitis. It is a combination pharmaceutical product containing two primary active ingredients: hinokitiol and cetylpyridinium chloride. Hinokitiol is a natural monoterpenoid known for its potent broad-spectrum antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, which help reduce swelling and redness in the gums. Cetylpyridinium chloride is a quaternary ammonium antiseptic that further aids in reducing the bacterial load in the oral cavity by disrupting microbial cell membranes. The product is applied topically to the affected gingiva or oral mucosa, providing localized therapeutic effects to manage inflammation and infection associated with dental conditions.
